Preamble to the S.A.L. National Constitution

Proud possessors of a priceless heritage, we male descendants of veterans of the Great Wars, associate ourselves together as “Sons of The American Legion” for the following purposes: To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate a true spirit of Americanism; to preserve the memories of our former members and the associations of our members and our forefathers in the Great Wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and masses; to make right the master of might; to promote peace and good will on earth; to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy; to consecrate and sanctify our friendship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness; to adopt in letter and spirit all of the great principles for which The American Legion stands; and to assist in carrying on for God and Country.

SAL Squadron 484
2011 Corned Beef and Cabbage Fundraiser
Held Saturday March 12, 2011

The SAL is proud to report a great success on our annual fundraiser.  The flooding threatened, but did not interfere with our attendance or spirits. Irish music set the mood. The dinner total was 161 served!   Many community members and friends of Post 484 were there to support our event...
The SAL and the Post thank our chefs Diane Lilly and John Petrakian for their expertise in preparing the dinner. We had numerous compliments and sold additional take out dinners because of the quality and generous portions offered.  Thank you, Rich Paprota, for managing our kitchen and meal preparation. Thank you, Cliff Hood for ticket and poster production, and also helping shop.  Thanks to Donna Whittreich, for shopping, donating decorations, decorating our hall, and, in a philanthropic gesture, for tipping our young wait staffers. Thanks to John Nordheim, for dining hall / table set up, Phil Sarsten, for kitchen crew assistant/ kitchen cleaning and Carol West for beverage station server. Thanks to Joe Sagarese, who did a monumental job selling 50 /50 tickets!  Our wait staff was managed by Katie Burns and included Alyssa Clark, Katie’s cousins Cheyenne, Montana, and Andrew Schmidbauer, and her brother, Tommy Burns. They learned valuable lessons in community service and volunteering, and handled the peak dinner hour rush like superstars!
Gary DuBois our bartender and co/bar manager did an awesome job, setting a new record for sales. Most importantly, the SAL and Post 484 acknowledge the guidance of Fred and Claire Monroe who are our mentors, and who managed the proceeds and sold tickets at the door.  Our maintenance crew, consisted of Henry and Kurt Eberle, Bill French, Phil Sarsten and “the go to guy” Tom Sacconne, who together put our hall back in order following the event.
In closing, I would like to thank all those unnamed, for purchasing tickets, working together at the event and for supporting Post 484’s annual fundraiser.
