American Legion Auxiliary

The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary expresses the purpose of the Auxiliary in the same words which set forth the purposes of the American Legion.  There is the addition of the phrase "to participate in and contribute to the accomplishments of the aims and purposes of the American Legion."

With our country committing our military forces in two wars it is important that our Auxiliary continue to lead in post activities as they have in the past.

A few questions we should ask ourselves…..
    What does our community need?
What can we do to support our young men and women in the military?
What special talents do our members have?
Are you willing to join with us to contribute to the accomplishments of the American Legion?

The Auxiliary is authorized by the US Congress.  An Auxiliary Unit receives it's "Charter" from the "Department of the American Legion" where the Unit is domiciled.  The Auxiliary is governed by the Department of the American Legion under rules and regulations set forth by the National Executive Committee.

We are in the process of regaining our Auxiliary Charter.  In order to regain said charter, we need at least 10 women willing to join our Post 484 Auxiliary.  Governance of the Auxiliary will be put up for vote by all members with the exception of the Treasurer.  The Treasurer will be a designated position.
Anyone interested in joining our Post 484 Women's Auxiliary should contact Kathy Schulz at eagle@post484nj.org.

In this world of ours, the American Legion Auxiliary shines as an example of unselfish and giving.

With almost a million members from all walks of life, the Auxiliary administers hundreds of volunteer programs, gives tens of thousands of hours to its committees and to veterans, and raises millions of dollars to support its own programs as well as other worthwhile charities familiar to most Americans. It is all accomplished with volunteers.

The auxiliary, organized in 1919 to assist The American Legion, is much more than the name implies. The organization has achieved its own unique identity while working side-by-side with the veterans who belong to The American Legion. Like the Legion, the Auxiliary's interests have broadened to encompass the entire community. The American Legion Auxiliary is the world's largest women's patriotic service organization. Through its nearly 10,500 Units located in every state in some foreign countries, the Auxiliary embodies the spirit of America that has prevailed through war and peace. Along with the American Legion, it solidly stands behind America and her ideals.
